Advanced Placement

Advanced Placement prepares students for university-level coursework and strengthens a competitive application.

Ask about this programme
  1. Around 40 AP courses

Across 7 subject groups, each modelled on the corresponding introductory university course.

  2. Exams every May

Held at AP test centres worldwide. Since May 2025 most exams are sat in the Bluebook app.

  3. Scored 1 to 5

A 3 is generally considered a pass; many universities want a 4 or 5 before granting credit.

  4. University credit

Strong scores convert into course credit at many institutions in the US and Canada, shortening both the degree and its cost.

Advanced Placement (AP) prepares students academically for university-level coursework while they are still in secondary school. Run by the College Board, each AP course mirrors an introductory university course and leads to a standardised exam held every May.

Studying AP at Sarah

  • A plan that fits — a subject combination chosen for the courses and universities the student is aiming at, rather than as many APs as possible.
  • Current materials — lessons and practice aligned to the College Board’s current course framework.
  • Less wasted time — a placement test shows what to fix first.
  • Support that continues — an academic advisor stays with the student through the course and the exam run-up.
